,

No matter what your mother or your school teachers told you, you just can’t do it all!

The fact of the matter is that we are all different and that means generally we excel in some things and can be downright lousy at others.

I have been re-learning this lesson for the past week and I don’t know how I ever forgot it in the first place.

You see, I have been building my new website.

It looked easy enough in the beginning – just pick a template, throw in some text, splash a few pictures here and there and VOILA, a new website is born, right?

Wrong!

Suddenly, what I have known all along, but which I forgot, was that I am not good at EVERYTHING!( I have slowly come to terms with this and am now getting over myself)

Why have I been telling you this?

Well sometimes, I think that salon owners forget this very important lesson as well.

You simply can’t do it all and do it all well.

If you were born to be the world’s best service provider and look after your clients, then you may struggle to manage the ‘business’ side of your salon.

That is perfectly OK because you are probably brilliant at what you love to do.

The secret to business success is to make sure that the business side of things isn’t simply ignored and locked away with the tools of the trade.

Be honest with yourself.  Do you love providing services to clients or do you love doing business?

If providing services wins out every time, then perhaps it’s time to call in the cavalry and get some help.  If doing books isn’t your thing, then consider getting a bookkeeper to manage this side of things for you.

If planning business strategy sounds like the worst way to spend your day, then it might be time to invest in the services of a good business coach.

Even the most elite athletes in the world use a coach to keep them on track when there is a goal to be achieved.

If an elite athlete needs a coach to keep them focused on achieving a goal, then the rest of us could most likely benefit from a coach as well.

Don’t continue to struggle with parts of your business that simply don’t suit your personal strengths.

There are people who can, and will, help you with these things.

So, now that I have had to time to think things over, I am going to ring my daughter (who just so happens to be a graphic designer and much better at websites than me) and get the help I so obviously need.
